Minister Balaam recommends the Interdiction of Dozens of Officials in Isingiro, Buhweju & Mbarara City Over Graft Allegations

The minister of Local Government, Hon. Balam Barugahara has recommended the interdiction of more than 30 senior district and city officials in the Nkore sub-region to clear the way for independent investigations into alleged high-level corruption. The recommendations, sent to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government, follow field visits conducted under the “Expose the Corrupt” campaign by Minister Balaam. Officials in Isingiro District, Buhweju District and Mbarara City are named in the latest batch of proposed interdictions. Luwa Acting Town Clerk Kurobe Samuel Remanded Over Alleged Forged Land Deal & Abuse of Office in Namisindwa

Kurobe Samuel, the Acting Town Clerk of Luwa Town Council in Namisindwa District, was this afternoon arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Division of the High Court on charges of abuse of office linked to a controversial land purchase. He was remanded until 13 August 2026. The arrest and court appearance were carried out by the Anti-Corruption Unit in collaboration with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID). According to investigators, Namisindwa District Local Government allocated UGX 150 million to Luwa Town Council for the purchase of land and construction of administrative offices. Of that sum, UGX 40 million was reportedly used to buy land in Kungu Cell, Bunambobi Ward, within Luwa Town Council. Emma Bwayo, the Namisindwa District LCV Chairperson, says strong winds destroyed many houses and crops across the district, particularly in sub-counties such as Magale, Namabya, Buwambwa, and Bumityero, as well as Namisindwa Town Council, including areas like Buwasiba. He said the government has already warned residents to remain vigilant, and given that we live in landslide-prone areas, our priority must be to protect lives and prevent further loss of property. Minister Balaam Effort: Buhweju district engineers interdicted over alleged misuse of road funds

Buhweju, Uganda | URN | Buhweju District senior engineer Dicklus Twinamatsiko and an assistant engineering officer, Samuel Nkwasibwe, have been interdicted over allegations of misappropriating public funds and failing to execute road projects funded during the 2024/2025 financial year. The officers were suspended from duty with immediate effect following findings contained in a special audit report that examined the implementation of several district road projects. According to separate interdiction letters dated August 6, the audit found that Twinamatsiko received an advance of 30 million Shillings to rehabilitate the Kabuga-Rushambya-Ekikorijo road. However, the report states that the works were never undertaken. Instead, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Fred Kalyesubula alleges that Twinamatsiko diverted the funds to work on the Kisa-Matsyoro Road, despite that project already having a separate budget allocation. Two members of Next Media’s team were killed and a well-known entertainment presenter left fighting for his life after a head-on collision on the Kampala-Entebbe highway in the early hours of Friday, August 7, 2026. Producer Badru Kasirye, who worked for NBS Television and Sanyuka TV, and content creator Isaac Ndamagye died at the scene near Namulanda. Brian “Makona” Ssemanda, the popular presenter known for the UnCut Sabula show, sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Kisubi Hospital, where he remains in the intensive care unit.
