President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate Douglas Karekona Singiza and 15 other judicial officers as High Court judges.

This is the largest ever appointment of judges of the High Court at that level by the president and out of the 16 appointed judges seven are male and nine female

Singiza came into the limelight recently while handling novelist Kakwenza Rukirabashaija’s offensive communication court case before he fled to Europe after he was granted bail.

According to the Judicial Service Commission Communications Officer, Maria Theresa Nabulya, the appointments will enhance the capacity of the High Court to expeditiously dispose of cases and tackle backlog.

In a press release issued by Nabulya, the appointments are an outcome of the on going recruitment exercise of the judicial officers at various levels into the judiciary service which started recently.

The 16 appointed judicial officers include, Ikit Mary, Dr Singiza Karekona, Matovu Massuna Flavia, Samuel Emokor, Susan Kanyage, Bernard Namanya, Patricia Asiimwe, Ocaya Thomas Ojele Rubanga and Christine Kahwa

Others are Patricia Mutesi, Okello George, Bukirwa Faridah Shamilah, Acellam Collins Magara Harriet Grace, Nagawa Celia and Nshimye Allan Paul Mbabazi
