The Joint Security operatives in Karamoja have launched an investigation into a murder case by unknown assailants suspected to be armed Karamojong warriors who shot and killed the UPDF soldier and a sub county chairperson on 22 May 2022 ambush and left others injured.
UPDF 3rd division spokesperson Major Isaac Oware said, the ambush was by suspected armed Karamoja warriors while on motor bike (Boda Boda) along Losilang- Loyoro road, enroute to Kaabong Town.
According to Maj Oware, the UPDF soldier now deceased was identified as Pte Lopeck Abraham Lotup, of Entebbe Battalion under Tokora Operations in Metropolitan Kampala.
He said Pte Lopec, a resident of Lokayona village, Loyoro Sub county in Kaabong district was ambushed while on his pass leave. His body was taken to his ancestral home for burial.
"PTE Komol Boniface of Entebbe Battalion under Tokora Operations in Metropolitan Kampala survived and now at his home." He added.
The injured Boda Boda rider, Mr. Lokol Francis is being treated at Loyoro Health Center III, in Kaabong District.
In the same development, Security team in Kotido District is also hunting for suspected Karamojong warriors who shot dead Lowok Paul a 47years old Napumpum Sub-county LCIII chairman, while he was with others in a bar at Napumpum Trading Centre
The deceased was a reformist and mobilizer in the disarmament Operation.
The scene of crime was being managed and the body evacuated to Kotido General Hospital for postmortem.
"We caution our soldiers and those in transport sector not to take any situation for granted. Do not take risks in deep and remote insecure roads." Maj Oware noted
He said, the joint security forces, condemn these heinous and lawlessness act and we remain committed to cracking these criminal elements until total security and peace is restored in the region.
