The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has announced a mass recruitment of over ten thousand (10000) soldiers into the army effective June 18 to July 4, 2022.
In a Monday press statement released by Defence spokesperson, Brig Flexi Kulayigye, over 8,300 officers will be recruited under general recruitment in various districts across the country.
On the other hand, special recruitment of 100 medical personnel will be at Kololo Airstrip), and 1,000 drivers and mechanics (at Gadhafi Barracks Jinja) while 600 Airforce officers will be recruited at Kololo independence grounds in Kampala.
Requirements
According to Brig. Kulayigye, “For one to be recruited, they must be citizens of Uganda holding the original national identity card, must be in good health, medically fit, and ready to undergo road run and check-ups.”
“They should be between the age of 18-25 or 18-30 if he/she is to enlist as regular or professional respectively. They must be single with no children to avoid family distractions,” he added.
He also noted that regular recruits should possess a minimum education of S.4 or S.6 with bias in science subjects such as physics, chemistry, and mathematics while professionals should be holders of Degrees/or Diplomas in medicine, Engineering, Chemistry, and Education or possess qualifications in vocational skills.
The UPDF statement further emphasizes that it has set up teams to ensure that the exercise runs successfully and districts are further encouraged to meet their quotas allocated.
