The Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU), has clarified on the circulating News of a temporarily call off strike, ordering the striking teachers to resume work with immediate effect.
There has been a letter signed by the UNATU General Secretary, Baguma Filbert Bate, instructing all teachers to be in class and resume teaching by June 29th, 2022, Wednesday.
This has been regarded as a fake document by UNATU Secretary General ,Mr Baguma.
For three weeks, teachers have been striking over what they termed as discriminative pay rise.
Baguma said five UNATU Executive members have been invited for a meeting with the Ministry of Public Service on Friday July 1st to discuss the matter.
He says they are also expecting to have a meeting with the President to have the issues of both Science and Arts teachers discussed as a whole.
On Monday, Minister of Public Service, Wilson Muruli Mukasa said government was in talks with UNATU to have the strike called off.
