The territorial Police of Mbarara are investigating circumstances under which a fire gutted Nyerere House, a boys dormitory that house 78 senior one and senior two students.
The incident according to Rwizi Region Police spokesperson Samson Kasasira happened on Friday at around 9:45am in the morning while all students were on assemble for an administrative address.
The Police Fire brigade according to him was able to get there in time extinguishing the fire and stopping it’s spread to other dormitories nearby.
ASP Kasasira adds that some of the property that include books, mattresses and beddings were totally destroyed by the fire but fortunately no student was affected.
The day students have been sent back home to help decongest the school for safety purposes according to Police.
The Regional Police PRO confided to this reporter that inquiries into the matter are ongoing to establish the cause of the fire.
