Suspected Karimojong warriors have shot dead a boda boda rider in Napak district despite the heavy military deployment and President Yoweri Museveni's presence in the area. The deceased has been identified as John Bosco Lomuria, a resident of Napao village, Poron Parish, Poron sub-county in Napak district.
He met his death today Monday morning at Nawaikorot village in Ngoleriet sub-county, just 3 kilometers away from Morulinga state lodge where Museveni is meeting with Karimojong leaders to find ways of ending the insecurity in the region. Micheal Longole, the Karamoja Regional police spokesperson confirmed the incident, saying they have launched investigations.
He says that the deceased had gone to Ngoleriet sub-county to visit his girlfriend identified as Kevin Look.
"Police visited the scene and a canine dog was introduced to the scene leading to the arrest of 4 suspects including those who were residing in the same hut with the deceased," he said.
He said the police officers also recovered 3 cartridges.
"We are yet to establish the motive of the murder," he said. The deceased's body is lying at Matany hospital pending postmortem. Jeremiah Lopuke, a resident of Kangole town council, says that the resurrection of gun violence in Karamoja has taken the region back to terrible days.
"The presence of President Museveni in Karamoja should yield results because we are losing people every day," he said.
Mark Lokongo, another elder said the president should spare time and meet the elders without their leaders.
"We have a serious message to deliver to the president but we don't want any leaders to be around because we are tired of seeing things moving in the wrong way," he said.
