The National Unity Platform Party (NUP) has flagged off a consignment of 2500kgs of maize flour (Posho) and 2500kgs of beans to Karamoja.
The Party said thats the food will be distributed to several families who are facing a food crisis.
Several people in Karamoja have reportedly died due to hunger in the past few weeks. This according to Napak Woman MP Faith Nakut, who raised an alarm this week, saying her people were dying of hunger.
Ms Faith Nakut, told Parliament that as of July 8, more than 600 starvation-related deaths had been recorded in the districts of Kotido, Napak, Moroto, and Kaabong
“We found out that our people were starving, literally dying. I visited some village where I found a family of three had died due to starvation,” Ms Nakut said.
“We acknowledge there have been responses by the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), food was distributed in Karamoja, each district settling for 150 tonnes of maize floor and beans targeting the most vulnerable. Unfortunately, the quantities supplied were not reasonable to feed a family for a week.”
