It is now 10 months ever since two opposition legislators Allan Ssewanyana and Mohammed Ssegirinya were arrested on allegations of being involved in the Masaka murders that saw over 30 people being hacked to death.
Spending the cold nights in Prison, the two law makers have expressed dissatisfaction on how they have been betrayed and let down by their fellow opposition legislators led by the Leader of Opposition Hon Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba whom the have accused of not doing enough to make sure that they regain their freedom.
Ssegirinya shed tears as he spoke about the incident saying that their fellow opposition mps are busy enjoying life as for them (Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana) continue to suffer under the illegal detention.
Ssegirinya said that Hon Mpuuga promised them that he would speak to the Speaker Anita Among to forge means of their rescue but ever since he said so, nothing fruitful has ever come out.
Ssegirinya added that some of those mps who claim to be in the struggle have never visited them adding that this shows their true colors.
"We are abandoned here. Our Leader of the Opposition has failed us. He promised us he was working out mechanisms with Speaker Hon Anita Annet Among to free us, but nothing yielded.’’ he added
Ssewanyana said that it is heartbreaking that their colleagues’ continue to appear in Parliament while others are pocketing money from the regime yet they are aware that their colleagues are illegally being detained .
" They don't care. All they care about is the money they earn. People should know that the struggle is full of leopards in goats skins." A teary Ssewanyana said
The two legislators were first arrested on September 7, 2021 with seven others. They applied and were granted bail after spending two weeks on remand. They were rearrested as they left prison on September 23 and 26 respectively before fresh murder charges were preferred against them.
On so many occasions, the two have been denied bail thus no one is sure when they will actually be out of Prison.
