The Electoral Commission has suspended two of its senior staff on allegations that they illegally took out documents of the opposition National Unity Platform from the custody of the electoral governing body, this website has learnt.
The suspended include Vincent Mulokozi, the Assiatant head of the Political Desk and Godfrey Atwijukye, also known as Godi, a lawyer to the Commission.
A source inside the Electoral Commission told this website that the two confirmed losing documents for the National Unity Platform which were later stolen from them.
In a meeting between the Electoral Commission, Mr Kibalama Moses and Simbwa Paul Kagombe, the Chairperson of the Commission, Justice Simon Byabakama wondered how senior staff took out documents supposed to be official, without clearance.
“Even when they lost the documents, none of them reported and the Justice Byabakama was wondering why the two officials even failed on the basic minimum of reporting cases of theft,” a source at the Electoral Commission told this website.
To the dismay of Kibalama and Simbwa, no sooner had the Commission declared loss of documents than new ‘forged’ documents started manifesting, with a changed constitution of the party.
The Kibalama group has for long been engaging in running battles with Mr. Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, the President of the National Unity Platform over party ownership and breach of a memorandum between the two groups.
The two in 2020, signed a memorandum of understanding taking over administration of the National Unity Platform from Kibalama to Kyagulanyi.
However, in June 2022, the two turned against each other, naming Kibalama and team crooks while Kibalama named the Kyagulanyi team dishonest and not up to the task of leading the party.
Currently both titular heads have different party offices of the National Unity Platform. Well as the Electoral Commission declared that the rightful leader of the Party is Mr Kyagulanyi, Kibalama and team have clarified to the Electoral Commission that leadership of the Party was restrained by him and Paul Simbwa Kagombe.
In the latest letter to the Electoral Commission with website has seen indicates Kyagulanyi, Rubongoya the Secretary General of NUP forged the party constitution and have no moral authority to speak on behalf of the party since they were ousted.
It has also been established that since the disappearance of NUP documents at the Electoral Commission, a new file has been opened for rectification of the mistakes done by the Electoral body.
Efforts to reach out to the acting Spokesperson of the electoral Commission Paul Bukenya for a comment on the matter remained futile as his known phone contacts remained not picked.
