ARUA: The Arua magistrate court on Tuesday evening remanded the three suspects of city 5 gin to prison for one week.
The suspects Inzikuru Rose aged 40 years and Adule Gideon aged 45 years were remanded on count of manslaughter while Norman Godfrey, the owner of the Shop in Mvara area and the other two were charged with manufacturing, possession and sale of a local waragi branded as City 5 that claimed the lives of over 12 people in West Nile
This followed the advice and the sanctioning of the case file by Resident State Attorney Arua.
He advised that one suspect identified as Cadribo Philliam aged 28 years, the Disco Joker (DJ) who was arrested while playing music at the place of manufacturing City 5 was to be set free.
He also condemned the act of detaining the suspects in police custody for more than 48 hours, the required time according to the law.
He says they will against over detaining the suspects beyond the expected time according to the laws.
It should be recalled that the four suspects were arrested on 21st August 2022 following an incident of sudden death of 12 people in Arua City and Madi-okollo district due to suspected poisoning after drinking City 5 local waragi, and intoxication of 20 people who were admitted for treatment at Arua Regional Referral hospital.
