MBALE FLOODS: Prime Minister Rt Hon Nabbanja Robinah on Tuesday chaired a multi sectoral meeting to receive an update on the flood disaster situation, which occurred in Mbale City.
Development partners who attended the meeting, pledged a wide range of intervention measures to contain the situation.
The report presented to the PM and the Development partners, indicated that the floods displaced an estimated 150 households.
Government has coordinated preliminary assessment efforts, to retrieve drowned bodies and restore damaged infrastructure. 29 bodies have so far been retrieved.
The Premier was informed that there is need to organize more emergency food and non-food items, water treatment, shelter and medical services for the displaced people.
The meeting was attended by the 3rd Deputy Prime Minister Lukia Nakadama, Agriculture Minister Frank Tumwebaze, Minister for General Duties Kasule Lumumba and Security Minister Jim Muhwezi and other development partners.

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, following a directive from the President, visited the affected areas on Sunday, to assess and provide overall coordination of the support and rescue effort.
The search and rescue continue by the Uganda Police, UPDF, Ministry of Health, Red Cross and the local community. The report presented to the Prime Minister and the Development partners, indicated that the floods displaced an estimated 150 households.
The most affected areas are Industrial City Division, Northern City Division and Bungokho sub county.

Later, the Prime Minister flagged off 12 tonnes of relief food to Kotido district, for distribution to the famine stricken families that was donated by a Ugandan in the United States of America Dr. Victoria Nalule.
The food was donated by Nalule minerals.
Karamoja sub region has also been in the spotlight because of the acute food shortages ravaging the area.
