The Buganda Road Magistrates Court has today Friday 12th July 2022 fined the Busiro North MP Paul Nsubuga Ugx 30M over mobile phone theft. This is after the legislator entered into a reconciliation and settlement agreement with the prosecution.
Nsubuga has been facing charges of theft of a mobile phone that belonged to Nicholas Karuhanga, who was operating Mobile money shop in town. The mobile phone was valued at shs80, 000 and it was reportedly loaded with Ugx4.5 million in form of mobile money.
The Buganda Road Magistrate grade one Ms. Siena Owomugisha closed the case after the State prosecutor Ms. Lydia Nakato informed court that both parties have reconciled and Nsubuga accepted to compensate the owner the phone.
“In the interest of promotion of reconciliation between the parties, this matter is stood over. The accused is discharged and set free,” Siena Owomugisha stated.
Nsubuga accepted to pay 30 million and he paid Ugx 5 million cash as commitment. Court further ordered him to pay the remaining shs25 million balance within a period of one month.
The presiding magistrate however warned Nsubuga to respect the terms of reconciliation agreement in order to avoid further charges.
“Abide by the terms of the reconciliation for you don’t want to be produced back in court,” Magistrate Siena Owomugisha stated.
