Over 300 Rustlers Jailed In Fresh Security Operations In Kotido

 



The joint security forces of the Uganda Police and UPDF have arrested 313 Karimojong rustlers who have been terrorising the people of  Acholi and Lango region.


The rustlers were arrested in a two-day operation which started on Thursday in Kotido and it’s still ongoing.


Brig. General Joseph Balikudembe the 3rd division commander said the 313 arrested suspects will be transported and get screened in Agago and Otuke districts where they have been making daily attacks and raiding animals.


He said after the screening those found to have masterminded the raids and killings in the neighbouring Acholi and Lango districts will be prosecuted while those found innocent will be set free.


Brig Balikudembe added that more than 700 heads of cattle have also been impounded pending being identified by the people of Acholi and Lango.


“We are determined to end this current cattle rustling in Karamoja and we shall continue carrying out joint operations to ensure that Karamoja will be peaceful,” he said.


Nations times has learnt that the current arrest of the Karimojong by security follows numerous complaints by the leaders of Agago over the continuous killings and raping of women in the Acholi.


Kotido district has been listed to be the most notorious district harbouring notorious criminals.
