CURE Canada boost Uganda's health sector with 18 ICU beds.

 


CURE Children's Hospital of Uganda has been boosted with 18 ICU beds donated by Cure international Canada. The donation came after the facility completed the New Intensive care unit building. 


The Cure Uganda delivers neurosurgical care to children with life threatening conditions such as Hydrocephalus, Spina Bifida, Brain tumors, Encephalocele, Epilepsy, illegularities of brain, skull fractures and Dermoid cysts. 


Dr. Wegoye Emmanuel medical director Neurosurgeon at Cure Uganda told Bugisu intellectual Media that we dedicated the 18 bed ICU for the treatment of children with Neurological conditions.


"The ICU building has doubled our capacity to treat children." He said. 

Mr. Tim the hospital director said they're excited to receive 18 ICU beds donated by a sister organization from Canada.


The completion of the New 18 bed ICU building will boost our work. 

Tim said, every year Cure Uganda provides life saving brain surgery for over 1,700 patients (140 monthly) and treats more than 9000 outpatients with Neurological conditions. 


In three years, we had 1 Neurosurgeon but now we have four and in the whole country there only 12.

John Faith Magolo MP for Bungokho North in Mbale district appealed to Permanent secretary in the ministry of health to upgrade Bufumbo health center IV and others into hospitals. 


Mbale regional hospital is very congested and if the government can work on that people will get services easily.


Mbale City Woman Member of Parliament Connie Nakayeze Galiwango informed Bugisu intellectual that According to government programs every sub county must have Health center III but up to now there are those without III but have II.


"We asked that, those with health center II be upgraded to III and where they is III elevated to IV,  and IV be upgraded to a hospital status at least every constituency or district get a hospital but they told us that there's no funds." Connie said.


Dr Diana Atwine, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, said ministry of health had not supported this Cure enough but it's in our plan.


She added that, Starting with Next financial year, we are going to allocate funds for the facility. we shall sign a memorandum of understanding with Cure because they don't only treat patients but also train many people.
