Meeting chaired by the Prime Minister, Rt Hon Robinah Nabbanja, She agreed with the Nyege Nyege organizers and other stakeholders that the festival will go on but under strict guidelines.
The meeting was attended by the 3rd Deputy PM, Minister for General duties,ICT and national guidance Minister, Minister for Kampala, Kampala state Minister, Gender State Minister, representatives from Internal affairs, foreign affairs, Police among others.
After serious discussions about the festival , they anonymously okayed the event to be conducted under stringent measures due to its economic benefits and international relations.
According to the CEO Talent Africa Ally Allibhai the festival lead organiser, over 700m shs has been injected in preparations that started in January 2022.
He says an estimated 20,000 revelers from allover the world are expected to participate in the nyege Nyege festival aimed at celebrating the beauty of the Ugandan culture and promote tourism.
This has seen the Speaker of parliament and other Member parliament disagree with the Prime minister's decision, saying that the event won't take place.
"This event won't happen, we are not going to promote Homosexuality, Drug abuse, Immorality and Over drinking in the name of Festival. NyegeNyege wont happen" Speaker of parliament Annet Among.
