GOVT PLAN TO DECONGEST KAMPALA GETS SOME TAXI STAGES RELOCATED FROM OLD PARK TO USAFI, KISENYI PARK.

Through the Minister for Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs Hon. Minsa  Kabanda, government  has exposed other  initiatives besides sending off hawkers from the streets and registration of motorcyclists to reduce on the congestion in the capital city kampala.

This has been focused on taxis in particular, to start with Entebbe taxi stage, the Minister told journalists at media center in Kampala that the stage was given a space in the Usafi taxi park but unfortunately the drivers had shifted back to the old taxi park claiming not to receive passengers due to poor passenger pass ways in place.

 

On Friday, Hon. Minsa added that the directives have immediate effect and all Entebbe stages along Entebbe road should vacate the road sides however the allowance is given to drivers up to Monday.

She added that the operation is to be implemented through the office of the executive director KCCA, the commander traffic police kampala metropolitan, the management of UTOF, the Diso kampala central and all chairpersons of stages in the taxi parks.

 Mr. Abiyola Walakira the chairperson Entebbe taxi stage said that some among the unresolved reasons why Entebbe stage left Usafi park is because the passengers have difficulties in accessing the Usafi park  and drivers were not making any single coin all day round and yet the taxi drivers have to report around 80,000 ugx to 100,000 ugx to the bosses on a daily basis.

According to Walakira " The designing of the Usafi market and taxi park was poorly made by KCCA since it doesn't accommodate passengers pass ways to walk through, however it is unfair that the Minister (Hon. Minsa) is leaving some other Entebbe taxi stage in Gwanda taxi park and sending those of old Park to Usafi." 

He included that all taxi stages that head to Entebbe from Old taxi park and Gwanda taxi park should be relocated to Usafi in order to reflect fairness in the business.

Walakira also noted that the efforts should not be put on stages in the Old taxi park alone but for all parks consisting of Enttebe taxi stage to be shifted to Usafi because there will be no option for Enttebe passengers apart from using the Usafi taxi park
