Kasese: Government has kicked off the process of assessing vulnerability of people settled In steep areas.

 


Government has begun the process of assessing the vulnerability of people settled in steep areas that are prone to disasters such as landslides.


This is according to Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the minister of ICT and national guidance who led a team of ministers including Godfrey Kabyanga and Kabuye Kyofatogabye to make an on spot assessment of the affected areas in Kasika village, Rukoki sub county Kasese district.


Today was a climax of a two day condolence  delivery exercise of 5 million shillings for each life lost sent to the families of 16 by President Museveni. 


Dr. Baryomunsi says that after the Kasese tragedy it has been agreed that a rigorous sensitization campaign is implemented to alert the people in disaster prone areas to relocate to lower and safer areas to reduce on the  catastrophes.


One of the most affected is Christopher Masereka who, lost 11 people in his family including his wife and children. He is still nursing injuries. Beneficiaries thanked the president for the quick response.
