Jubilation in Mbale as Minister Nabakooba Hands over 300 land titles to Slum Dwellers in Namatala.

There was  Jubilations in Mbale City this morning 7th October 2021, as Minister handed over 300 land titles to slum dwellers at Namatala Nyanzi Cell, Central Division. This is part of Government commitment to transform lives of urban slum dwellers According to president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

In her Remarks, Lands , Housing and urban development Minister, Judith Nabakooba said that Ownership & Better Land use Improves Livelihoods.

"I am deeply happy to see that women today are able to own land titles. This was not the case back in the days. Women used to appear on land titles only as witnesses. Today they are land owners with land titles," she said.

Nabakooba also intimated to our reporter that Government plans to empower the Urban poor across country first with giving them land titles. "Our goal is to see that the urban port's lives are improved. We plan to do this in all urban areas across the country." She said.

Namatala is a highly populated area in Industrial Division Mbale City in Mbale District with 99% of its residents rated as low income earners.

The area has a population of 39,016 residents according to the previous statistics by UBOS.The Main tribes in Namatala are karamajongo, Bagwere, Itesoits,Langi's and a few Bagisu.
