One suspect arrested on allegations of extortion at Immigration office Mbale.


Police in Mbale city is investigating a case of a man they arrested at Mbale regional Immigration office and Passport issuing centre suspected for extortion of money from passport applicants.

The Deputy RCC in Charge of Mbale Northern city division Prossy Mwanjuzi identified the suspect as Ssempala Shafiq.

Mwanjuzi  that the issue of extorting money from people at Immigration office is far and the whole department is very rotten. 


Prossy told Bugisu Intellectual that, the suspect sells masks, passport covers but  dealing with someone inside Immigration. 

Prossy Narrated that one Bapana Muhammad the applicant from Jinja received a message to pick his passport but has been traveling everyday but sending him back, until today when Ssempala asked for 50000 shillings to help him get a passport.

She noted that the boy came to her office in Nakaloke for help but when he told her about someone asking for money, I decided to come with photocopied 50000 shilling note and gave him with police officers. 

"We followed the boy up to Internal affairs where he gave the suspect money and police arrested him." Mwanjuzi said. 


She said, the suspect is at Mbale city Central police station pending for more investigations.

Bapana Muhammad from Jinja told Bugisu Intellectual that he applied for an Express passport on 3rd /10/ 2022 but had not yet received it. 

Muhammad noted that when he came with deputy RCC they arrested the person who took the money.

"I have received my passport and over 100 people have also got theirs, I appeal to all leaders to be like Prossy." Muhammad said. 


Maboga Sulaina another applicant commended Prossy for helping her get her passport, which she says she was giving to give up because of frustration. 

"The people working in Immigration are very arrogant, they don't listen to us, they only know those with money." Maboga noted.
