SHOWBIZ: Eddy Kenzo becomes the 2nd Ugandan Grammy award nominee after the Bayudaya Music of Mbale who were first nominated in 2005


Eddy Kenzo has become the 2nd Grammy Nominee of Grammy Awards uganda after being nominated yesterday  in the category of #Best Global Music Performance.

Abayudaya of Mbale, Music from the Jewish People of Uganda were the first Ugandan to be nominated for the Grammy Awards in 2005.


The Bayudaya of Mbale Music group was nominated in 2005 GRAMMY Award for #Best Traditional World Album.

After making a remarkable presence on the continental music awards scene following 2004 twin win at the Kora All Africa Music awards, Ugandan music took it to the global leap when Ugandan music CD were among the 47th Annual Grammy Awards nominee list, which happened  Feb 2005. 


The 24-track album features performances from various artists with Jeffrey A. Summit as its producer participated in the Grammy awards of 2005, even though they never won it.

Abayudaya: The Music of the Jews of Uganda presents a unique collection of African-Jewish music in which the rhythms and harmonies of Africa blend with Jewish celebration and traditional Hebrew prayer.


 

This compelling repertoire is rooted in local Ugandan music and infused with rich choral singing, Afro-pop, and traditional drumming. The repertoire includes lullabies, political and children's song, religious rituals, hymns, and celebratory music, with song texts in Hebrew, English, and several Ugandan languages.


 This singular community of African people living committed Jewish lives has survived persecution and isolation and asserts. The Bayudaya music group still exists and are currently in Nabweya hills, Northern city Division in Mbale City.
