Fear continues to engulf Ugandans day and night over guns that continue to disappear in the hands of unknown persons.
As we report this, security bosses in Kikuube District are investigating circumstances under which a Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier lost his gun in Bugoma Central Forest Reserve.
Reports have it that Pt. Wycliffe Musibira attached to UPDF’s 13th Battalion in Kikuube who was deployed to guard Bugoma central forest reserve on Wednesday returned with no gun under allegations that he was ambushed by unknown men while in the forest reserve who hacked the hand and took off with his gun.
This has been confirmed by Capt Geoffrey Sunday, the Masindi Artillery Division Spokesperson who said the soldier has been arrested to help them with investigations.
The above incident joins more others that have left several guns in hands of unknown personnel, 13 guns have recently been stolen from security personnel including police officers, private security guards, and soldiers.
On 14th November 2022, gunmen attacked Kensington police post in the affluent Kyanja, a Kampala city suburb, and fired two rounds shattering the window panes of the police post.
The attack came almost a fortnight after gunmen attacked Busika police station in Luwero district and killed two police officers, injured two others, and made off with two firearms. One of the injured officers later succumbed to the gunshot wounds.
Security has since blamed the attack on Uganda Forces for Coalition Change, a rebel outfit. Owoyesigyire says that they have enhanced security at all police posts and stations around Kampala as well as pump fuel stations.
The incidents also come against the recent decision by the police leadership to merge several police posts around Kampala, Ssezibwa, and Katonga regions as the force pilots a new policing model which will be based at the sub-county
