UNEB conducts a joint Press Briefing with Police as it releases a  roadmap for UACE Examination

The Uganda National Examination Board has alerted a total of ninety seven eight hundred and ninety (97,890) registered candidates for UACE against acts of malpractice.

Head Teachers  advised to thoroughly brief their candidates on the rules and regulations regarding the examination for at least two hours for proper direction and caution them against acts that may result in malpractice or being disqualified from doing the examination.

Jennifer Kalule the public relations officer UNEB on Monday told police in Kampala that under section 36 of the UNEB Act 2021, the penalties for adding and abetting examination malpractice include a term of imprisonment not cxceeding five years or a fine not exceeding 20 million shillings even or both.

She however added that UNEB assures the candidates that the purpose of the examination is to assess their level of achievement as this is not an end in itself.

Therefore it will help the candidates to be placed in their desired career paths and  candidates are implored to take full responsibility of their academic careers, not allow anyone to involve them in any form of malpractice as this will jeopardize their academic achievement, she noted .

She further cautioned the public against aiding and abetting examination malpractice through any means like electronic transmission of what is purported to be a UNEB Examination paper, material or any other information, related to the examination and  such a people will be charged too.

Kalule gave examples of  some cases of examination malpractice that were reported with regard to PLE and are still being investigated, therefore if evidence reveals, the suspects will be charged under the UNEB Act 2021.

She included that  In Kakumiro District, they reported an unfortunate incident where 23 out of 26 candidates of St. Christine Primary School arrived 1 hour and 16 minutes after the start of the mathematics examination, essentially making them late for the paper and  not allowed to sit the paper.

According to Kalule," to the UNEB regulations, any candidate who comes after 15 minutes from the start of the Examination must not be allowed to sit for the paper."

She therefore strongly advised candidates to keep time and avoid being disqualified
