EALA legislators Take Oaths.


Ugandan East African Legislative assembly Mps Hon Mary Mugyenyi, Hon Rose Akol, Hon Musamali Paul, Hon Denis Namara, Hon Jackline Amongin, Hon Veronica kadogo, Hon George Odongo & Hon Gerald Siranda also took oaths of allegiance to the 5th Assembly of #EALA today 19th December 2022 in Arusha.

Other EALA member states of the East African Community (EAC) were also sworn in. 


The swearing-in took place today, December 19, 2022, in Arusha, Tanzania where all members had gathered.


According to a statement from the EAC, the 4th Assembly came to an end with a new assembly expected to be sworn in. There were seven members of the EAC: Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan and DRC. However, Somalia had applied to join the regional integration body. 


Under Chapter 9 of the Treaty, EALA is mandated with core functions of Legislation, approval of the EAC budget, representation and oversight.



Speaker of the assembly, Martin K. Ngoga, presided over its last sitting on December 5, 2022. Significantly, that was the last Sitting of the 4th Assembly, whose life and tenure ended on December 17th 2022. 


Uganda’s representatives and delegates have travelled to Tanzania for the swearing-in ceremony. 


On September 26, 2022, Uganda elected nine representatives to EALA: Rose Akol Akullo, Dennis Namara, James Kakooza, George Stephen Odongo, Paul Musamali Mwasa, Veronica Babirye Kadogo, Mary R. Mugyenyi, Jacquiline Amongin and Gerald Blacks Siranda. 


The East African Legislative Assembly is the legislative organ of the East African Community and consists of members elected from outside the national Parliaments of the partner states.
