While speaking to mourners at the funeral of of late Prof. Patrick Maseete Kuuya yesterday 9th December 2022, Budadiri West MP Nandala Mafabi pledges a cash fee of 50M to renovate Mbale municipal stadium to keep the late in memories.
Nandala said that the late Kuuya so much loved sports and Bugisu region when he was in power, durning Obote Government.
Nandala also told mourners that Masette Kuuya was part of the UNLA that liberated Uganda with the support of Tanzania in 1979 with the ranks of captain. According to Nandala, Masette Kuuya wanted the whole Mandela National Stadium also built at Nabumali ahead of a Confederation of East and Central African Football Association (CECAFA) Championships, but he met resistance.
“The structure you see today in Namboole would have been built at Nabumali,”, After he was being fought, he instead upgraded the Municipal (now City) Stadium in Mbale but instability also disrupted his progress. He is a man who fought so hard for Mbale’s share of the national cake,, said Nandala mafabi.
Cassim Namugali the Mbale City Mayor pledged to formalise the process of renaming the facility to Patrick Masette Kuuya Stadium.
However, Bishop Nandaah of Mbale Diocese asked government to complete the stadium in memory of the late. He said that the only way to appreciate the good works of the late is by completing most of the projects he started in order to keep his legacy.
He also appreciated Nandala for offering to make simple repairs on the stadium.
