The Lord Mayor of Kampala Erias Lukwago today led City Leaders to pay homage to the Kabaka of Buganda at Bulange Mengo in an activity traditionally called Luwalo Lwaffe.
He was received by the Deputy Katikiro Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa who represented the Katikiro of Buganda.
The Deputy Katikiro thanked the Lord Mayor for being steadfast and creating a working relationship between the City Authority and the Kingdom of Buganda.
He said that the Kingdom believes in rule of law and called for a stop to violations of human rights calling on central government to expedite trial of two Kampala MPs; Sigirinya and Sewanyana.
He further said that Mengo doesn't discriminate against any of Kabaka's subjects based on their political affiliation giving an example of Leaders of different political affiliations present at the function.
Addressing the gathering, the Lord Mayor said that there are attempts to revise the City's history by actions like the removal of the image of Impala from the City's logo and reaffirmed that he will always oppose such moves which delink the City from Buganda calling for further integration of the Kingdom and the City Authority in decision making.
He asked for greater cooperation between Buganda and the City Leadership further pledging to support all attempts for Buganda to regain its assets still under the control of City Authority like a section of Wandegeya Market,he affirmed
his continued participation in Kingdom activities like Bulungi bwansi and requested Katikiro to
allow Kampala Leaders to mobilize themselves at all levels to clean and restore Kabaka's lake to its former glory, adding that it's embarrassing that the past generation did not use basic equipments to manage and create the lake while the current generation with all the modern equipments are yet to clean and restore the lake.
The City Leadership delivered Five Million shillings to support the Kingdom activities.
Present at the function were; the Deputy Lord Mayor, City Executive Secretaries, Authority Speaker Central Division Mayor and Councillors.
