Three armed robbers put out of action in Kamuli district.

 

Three unidentified armed robbers have been put out of action as they attempted to shoot two local watchmen of Namwendwa Town council, as they questioned their suspicious movements 

The watchmen have been identified as Matovu Isa, a UPDF veteran and Mudhungu Mohamed a civilian.  The duo are charged with the duty of boosting security in the town council in coordination with the area police.

The incident occured today 07/12/2022 at around 0300hrs in Green Zone, Namwendwa Ward, Namwendwa Town council.

Preliminary investigations suggest that information was got by Matovu and Mudungu from Buyende bodaboda leadership that there was theft of two motorcycles(reg.no.UFQ 086C and one unidentified) from their colleagues and that the suspected robbers were heading to Namwendwa. 

In touch with the truckers of one of the motorcycle, the  security guards followed up until they found five suspected robbers. One of them was a woman identified as Namwase Sofia, and she was the one harbouring the four men in her rented room at the premises of Kiyuba George.

 

They were found with two motorcycles,one without a numberplate and another one of Reg. number UEZ 526C. Upon being interogated, one of them discharged two bullets in air, before attempting to aim at the guards. This prompted Matovu to grab the gun and a scuffle ensued that saw three suspected robbers put out of action. During the scuffle, two of the suspects, including the woman fled the scene.

The scene of crime was visited by the Regional CID officer, regional CI officer, DPC Kamuli district, Kamuli district Scene of Crime Officer and other detectives.

At the scene the following items were recovered; Two motorcycles, one is numberless and another is UEZ 526Q;One SMG (AK 47); two catridges, a mixer, laptop, extension cable, copper wires, a set of army uniform and shoes have been recovered. Other items include; hand saw, knives, scree drivers, and pliers. Upon further search,the national identity card of woman robber Namwase  Sofia recovered.

The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Kamuli general hospital mortuary for postmortem 

We commend the residents of Namwendwa Town council for the vigilance and good coordination in fighting crime.
