Traffic officer knocked dead on Lira-Soroti road

 

Lira – Police constable Micah Muhindo has been knocked dead in an accident at Adwila along the Lira-Soroti road.

The Thursday morning accident involved a motor vehicle Reg No UG 0337G, a Ford Ranger belonging to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and a motorcycle Bajaj Boxer reg no UEU 841C.

It is alleged that the driver, No 64670 PC John Oginere, and a police officer attached to the Ministry of Internal Affairs while coming from Soroti upon reaching Adwila, knocked the rider, Bob Odongo, who lost control, and knocked officer Muhindo to death. The rider, too, died on the way to Lira regional referral hospital.

According Faridah Nampiima, the traffic police spokesperson the driver of the vehicle has been arrested to help in investigations.

“Our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased officer and Odongo Bob,” she said

Nampiima reminded all road users to be vigilant while using the roads and drive responsibly especially during this festive season.
