Bobi, Mpuuga, Katikiro Mayiga hold closed meeting

NUP’s President Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine and Leader of Opposition, also Kyagulanyi’s Deputy Mathias Mpuuga together with the Katikiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga has begun closed door meeting at the seat of the Buganda Kingdom in Mengo.

The meeting follows an impasse with in the NUP Political Party that has lasted for more than 16 months with each party leader accusing the other of a number of leadership weaknesses, both in Parliament and at the Party Headquarters.

A source privy to the issues told this website last week that the issues between the two parties include an alleged plot by the Leader of Opposition to build structures within the main stream NUP while several other Politicians at the Party headquarters accuse Mpuuga of being in bed with the Speaker of Parliament and the entire parliamentary commission.

“They are accusing Mpuuga of so many things, some of which are baseless. But in acting with heist, LoP didn’t know he is giving enough space to the different attacking groups to weaken his abilities.” a source at NUP told this website.

The challenges had forced the NUP President, Robert Kyagulanyi to allegedly recall Hon Mpuuga from the position of Leader of Opposition in December last year until the Kingdom and the catholic church intervened between the two leaders.

Sources close to the NUP Party President told this website that Kyagulanyi had opted for Joel Ssenyonyi to replace Mpuuga while others intimated that a surprise appointment of Makindye MP Derrick Nyeko would unify all parties in Parliament.

However, the alleged intervention forced the NUP President to immediately halt the recalling of Mpuuga until his two and a half year term elapses.

“Many of you thought Zaake would replace Mpuuga. But even Zaake himself knows that Kamwokya cannot appoint him because they think, he is not yet ready to take on the position. They however use him to fight battles against the current leader of opposition.” the source told this website.

Highly placed sources within NUP claim, there is a new war that has erupted between two friendly forces within the party that is; Butambala MP Muwanga Kivumbi and LoP Mathias Mpuuga each accusing the other of backstabbing before the NUP President.

Sources also claim, Kivumbi has currently working tooth and nail to replace Mpuuga as leader of Opposition. The claim could not be independently verified by this website as Kivumbi worked tirelessly to lure NUP leadership into appointing Mpuuga Leader of Opposition in 2021.

The meeting between the two leaders in Katikiro Mayiga’s office is expected to handle that, among other leadership issues between the two Leaders who both subscribe to the Kingdom of Buganda as Kabaka’s subjects.
