The Lord Mayor of Kampala Erias Lukwago today held a follow up meeting with representatives of Multiplex Ltd employees following their Petition for him to intervene in their dispute with their employer,amongst the concerns raised in the petition included non remittance of NSSF and Unfair deductions of wages.
The Lord Mayor reiterated his earlier statement that it is simply unacceptable for employees to be unfairly treated in violation of employment act most especially if it's an agent of KCCA an Authority he heads.
It was further brought to the Lord Mayor's attention that Multiplex management had stood on the way of their employees getting unionized.
Workers MP Dr.Byakatonda Abdullah who attended the meeting said it is a worker's right to be unionized and important that there is industrial harmony if productivity is to be enhanced
The meeting was also attended by Members of the City Executive committee,Authority Councillor Representing Workers Bismark Ssempijja,Authority Councillor Jeremiah Kaya and Secretary general of AGWU union Anthony Wanyama, resolved to give Multiplex Ltd an opportunity to internally resolve the dispute in a meeting which will be attended by the employees Union representatives, scheduled for Sunday 29/1/2023, as requested by Multiplex management in response to the Lord Mayor's summons and report back on the progress.
