Government has called upon small scale industries in the country with the potential to supply to free zones across the country to start gearing up for the huge opportunities.
This was reached on Wednesday during the signing of thememorandum of understanding between the Uganda Free Zones Authority (UFZA) and the Uganda Small Scale Industries Association (USSIA) in Kampala.
According to the executive director of the Uganda Free Zones Authority Hezi Kimoomi Alinda the only way government can ensure that people have money in their pockets is by creating effective demand of goods produced by the population.
UFZA is a Government Agency that regulates and licenses Export Processing Zones and Free Port Zones for the purpose of creating opportunities for export-oriented investment, open market and job creation.
It's designated areas in Uganda where duty free goods are stored, manufactured or processed for export.
It's this urge which has prompted the Uganda Free Zones Authority to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Uganda Small Scale Industries Association (USSIA), this implies that the small scale traders or companies can now supply goods to the UFZA for export a move which is deemed to be a step in the right direction for not only the country but also for the small scale traders specifically registered by USSIA.
To fully achieve this UFZA is to embark on profiling small and medium enterprises that have the potential to supply goods and the key among the aspects to be considered is quality and quantity of the products .
Veronica Namwanje the executive director of the USSIA said the memorandum of understanding they have appended on signatures has been long over due optimistic that it will create more jobs and other opportunities.
