As Uganda journalist Association (UJA) elections gain momentum, more than six candidates have been eliminated by the vetting committee for not meeting the requirements.
The eliminated include:- Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa of NbsTV, Lozio Tamale from Radion4, Nkaata Emanuel from Sanyu Fm, Gabriel Buule from monitor, Abu - monitor and others.
According to UJA acting secretary Mr Emma Kirunda, those eliminated didn't meet requirements i.e :- one is required to be an active member for 2 years, He or She must have attained a Diploma or degree in journalism, He must be a registered member with uja, he must pay nomination fee etc.
Emma further informed us that several candidates showed interest in contesting but unfortunately most of them have not been Active members for the past 2 years.
"Being an active member UJA is by paying membership fee annually and actively participating in UJA activities" - said Emma.
Emma says that Many journalist just get active when it's time for elections in the association and want to take part in the election yet they are not eligible.
