Streamlining City Public Transport: KCCA Meet UTOF - ED Kisaka Pledges Maximum Support.



The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) seeks to develop a complete public transport network for the city showing how the various modes of transport will feed into each other, complementing but not competing with one another. 


This morning, the KCCA Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka together with the lord mayor of kampala, Erias Lukwago, led a team to meet with the leadership and membership of the Uganda  Taxi operators' federation (UTOF) as one of the initial stages in actuating this grand plan, to streamline city public transport. The took place at city hall in kampala. 


"A streamlined public transport system, reduces congestions on roads, pollution in our city eases mobility of majority our people in the city and creates order'' - Kisaka  said, Elaborating the rational of the meeting. I the meeting, the interim apex body of all public transport stake holders, we are staying true to our inclusion stance in the management and main streaming of our operations, she added .





The meeting (UTOF)  is aimed at formalizing the relationship with KCCA by issuing terms of reference on the obligation and responsibilities of each party with respect to streamlining public transport in the city, KCCA has over the years  started on streamlining commuter taxi operations through :

Introduction of rout chats for all taxi stages in the parks.

Engaging taxi public transport stake holders through a public transports consultative forum comprising of government and private stake holders such as (UTOF). 

Stake holder Engagement to introduce collaborative solutions to the sector improvement programs.

For boda boda operations in the city, KCCA is currently working on a grand plan to :- To introduce designated boda boda stages in appropriated locations. Assign boda boda riders to stages and introduce unique identifications to each rider with approved reflector jackets. Gazette stages for boda bodas in the various divisions.

UTOF is interim body for all private public transport operators in the taxi (Matatu) and commuter buses business across the country. The ministry of works and transport is in the process of formulating guidelines for formulation of an Apex leadership body for the industry. Once this process is complete, the Apex body shall replace any existing interim leadership.
