Three people including the Bus driver by the Names of Ntege Muhammad have died on spot and ten others rashed to Mbale reginal hospital in critical conditions after a bus registration number UBG 400C, belonging to YY Coach over turned in Nampiido, saala trading center on Mbale Tirinyi highway.
According to eye witnesses, the bus which was from Kampala heading to Mbale crashed at approximately 20:00hours yesterday night.
The eye witnesses further informed us that the bus driver lost control after trying to save a boda rider who accidentally joined the road.
The other two who died on spot are yet to be identified.
North Bukedi police spokesperson, Ms Immaculate Alaso said the YY bus with registration number UBG 400C was travelling from Kampala to Mbale when the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned several times.
Alaso stated that the police have launched an investigation into the accident to determine its cause. The names of the injured passengers have not yet been disclosed.
“Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident and more details are to be availed in due course.”
“The police will continue with operations to crackdown on reckless drivers and those without valid driving permits especially on major roads,” she added.
The police regional spokesperson also urged drivers to follow the traffic rules and guidelines.
“The passengers should alert the police of any driver[s] that have persisted and refused to abide by the police regulations by either speeding or overloading beyond their capacity.”
By press time, the bodies of the deceased had been transported to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital along with the injured survivors of the accident for further medical treatment.
