The Kiboga Territorial Police has registered a tragic accident resulting in the loss of five (5) lives on the spot.
According to ASP Kawala Racheal, the PRO of Wamala region, the accident involved a Link Bus Company's motor vehicle registration number UBF 953W and a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle registration number UFM 237K.
The incident occurred on 28/05/2023 at approximately 9:00 PM in Maggi Village, Kyekumbya Subcounty, Kiboga District, along the Kampala-Hoima highway.
The deceased include: Sekanza Venati, a male adult and resident of Bukututu Village, Kyekumbya Subcounty who was the rider of the motorcycle, Ndikumaana Jamari, a male adult and resident of Bukukutu Village, Kyembya Subcounty, Wiso, a male adult and resident of Bukukutu Village, Kyembya Subcounty, Denis, a male adult, resident of Bukukutu Village, Kyembya Subcounty and Bosco, a male adult and resident of Bukukutu Village, Kyembya Subcounty. All passengers on the Boda Boda.
According to preliminary information, the bus registration number UBF 953W, driven by Katwesige George William, was traveling from Kampala towards Hoima. Upon reaching Kasega, it collided with a Fuso Fighter truck with an unidentified number plate that was moving in the opposite direction from Hoima to Kampala.
Meanwhile, a motorcycle UFM 237K, carrying approximately five people, overtook the Fuso Fighter at that moment. The motorcycle struck the bus on the driver's side, causing the passengers and the rider to fall off the motorcycle and sustain fatal injuries.
The traffic officers were called and responded to the scene. The bodies of the deceased were conveyed to Kiboga Hospital, where they will undergo postmortem examinations. The preliminary investigation suggests that the cause of the accident was reckless driving by the motorcycle rider.
Kawala urged all road users, especially drivers and motorcyclists, to strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations. It is crucial to avoid overloading, overtaking in dangerous corners, over-speeding, and other careless driving practices. Let us prioritize safety on the roads.
