Bugisu Region MPs whose seats are at stake in 2026 Named.

Bugisu sub-region is located in the eastern part of Uganda and it is made up of six (6) Districts, namely:- Mbale, Manafwa, Sironko, Bulambuli, Bududa, and Namisindwa. 

Our investigation team which spent in the region two (2) good weeks compiled a report regarding the performance of Members of parliament who represent various districts and counties.

According to the results gathered several members of parliament from the Bugisu region are most likely not to make it to parliament in 2026.

Hon. Connie Galiwango Nakayenze.

She is a Woman member of parliament representing Mbale City, Nakayenze has been in parliament for  (15) years, She is the widow to the late Hassan Galiwango who was a top official at the National resistance movement (NRM) secretariat.

It is said that Nakayenze has been winning the election for the previous years because of her late husband, Dr. Hassan Galiwango, who always played a big role in the election process. 

In 2021, at the tally center, there was a big wrangle where her and her rival, Lydia Wanyoto Mutende put the tally center at a standstill for almost two days without announcing the winner. Dr. Galiwango was forced to storm the tally center demanding the returning officer to declare the winner and in a few hours, she was announced the winner. Ever since Nakayenze was elected to parliament in 2021, she has not been vibrant both in parliament and on the ground. 

Many of her voters complained that Nakayenze is so silent compared to the previous terms.

a voter from Namakwekwe drafted to us a scenario where Mbale city was hit by the floods and she was nowhere to be seen, another voter from the industrial division claimed that she has distanced herself away from the constituency and spoke nothing in parliament since 2021 up to date.   

Hon. Mary Gorreti Kitut.

Woman Member of Parliament representing Manafwa District - She has been in parliament for close to Ten (10) years. In 2021, she faced it rough with her rival, Mutonyi Rose who gave her a sleepless night. While in Manafwa, we realised that she is more active in the Namisindwa district and our inside source informed us of how she plans to contest in Namisindwa but not Manafwa. 

During the Karamoja Iron Sheets saga, research shows that many of the beneficiaries were residents of Namisindwa, this has annoyed Manafwa voters who claim that she is not born in the area, therefore she should contest in Manafwa in 2026.

Though Kitutu has been active both in parliament and on the ground not till when the Iron Sheet saga hit the wave.

Hon. Wandwasi Robert.

He is a member of Parliament Bungokho South, this constituency was bisected into two. (South and Central).

He is in parliament for the first time though he has not been so vibrant. According to his voters in the constituency, Wandwasi made a lot of promises to them during the campaigns but up to date none has been delivered. In Namawanga and Bumasikye, several residents accused their member of parliament of land grabbing. 

Others claim that due  to too many loans, he has cut off communications with all his coordinators and political assistants.

It is also speculated that the bank captured one of his schools in Busiu which used to give bursaries to the community.  

Hon. Iry Muloni.

Woman member of parliament Bulambuli District.

Having bounced back in parliament in 2021, the former Energy minister is having a great challenge with her supporters in the constituency who alleged that she has overstayed and yielded fewer results both on the ground and in parliament, Muloni is one of the senior politicians Bugisu has ever had but unfortunately, she has not spoken anything in parliament since 2021.  

Hon. Seth Wambede.

Wambede is the Member of Parliament of the Northern City division in Mbale City.

Wambende has the poorest relationship with his voters and those of the rival, Hon. Ivan Masaba whom they claim won the election in 2021 but was cheated.

It is alleged that Wambede who came 4th in the election was declared the winner, this annoyed many voters of the northern division. 

Voters also claim that he is not fair to his opponent, Ivan Masaba who happens to be the son of his sister. voters claim Hon. Wambede would have forgiven Masaba on issues of compensating him after he lost the election petition case.

Wambede served in the ninth parliament but was outed in the 10th parliament.

Wanda Richard.

He represents Bungokho Central and he won the election massively after outing Hon. Welikhe Kafabusa who had been in parliament since 1998. Wanda had fertile ground during the 2021 general elections though, at the moment, most of his voters complain of him disappearing from the grounds since the 2021 elections.

In Nabumali Town Council where he is born, many of his voters viewed dropping him in 20026, it is also alleged that  Masaba Muhamod, the Mayer Industrial City division is eying this seat in 2026.

Others whose seats are at stake in 2021  include:-  

Hon. Agnes Nandutu- Woman Member of Parliament Bududa district 

Hon. Sarah Netalisire - Namisindwa District.

Hon. David Wanendeya Wakikona of Bushigayi County. 

Hon. Nyasiyo Mudimi, MP Elgon County and Hon Masika Appolo, Member of parliament Namisindwa District.
