First Lady Janet M7 Hails KCCA In Responding To Social Challenges Of Street Children In The City



The First Lady of Uganda, Hon Janet Kataha Museveni has hailed the work of KCCA in responding to the social challenge of street children in the City. 


Speaking today 29th June 2023, from Masulita, she said that in August 2022, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) removed 270 children from the streets of Kampala and the children were received at the UWESO Masulita home for rehabilitation.


 'I thank Kampala Capital City Council (KCCA) for bringing the children to Masulita and to Kobwin instead of abandoning them on the streets"


The First lady who is the founder of UWESO was today at the Masulita home together with the Chinese Ambassador to Uganda to witness the medical camp set up by the Chinese embassy to take care of the children. 


She condemned the act of trafficking children and using them for trade which is the highest form of child abuse. 


The Kampala Capital City Authority Executive Director, Dr Kisaka Dorothy commended the work of UWESO and thanked the leaders and staff for  a job well-done. 

"Street children remain a challenge in the city and the largest percentage hail from Karamoja, we need to put efforts together to fight such acts and empower these children with education.



Kisaka also hailed the work of UWESO in taking care of the former street kids. 

The 270 children who were removed from the streets by KCCA in 2022 are undergoing training suited for their specific age group at Masulita.

The UWESO manager Bob Turyamwijuka said the older kids were relocated to Kobwin Centre in Karamoja, and many have been reunited with their families already.
