Residents flee their homes in Bwera town, Kasese after suspected rebels raided Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Secondary School & killed 37.

 


Hundreds of residents of kasese District Bwera town, have been seen fleeing their homes after suspected rebels raided Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Secondary School on Friday night, killing 37 students and five other members of the community.


It is alleged that the ADF rebels also abducted more than 40 male students from this School.

On Friday 23rd June 2023, rebels suspected to be Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) raided a school in Mpondwe Kasese district in Western Uganda and Killed 37 Students and abducted over 40.


According to sources, the militants attacked Rubiriha Secondary School in the very early hours, leaving 37 dead, 8 severely injured and over 40 abducted.


This was one of the serious attacks made on an institution in the same area in over 20 years after the same ADF attacked Kichwamba Technical College on 08th June 1998 and burnt over 80 students alive in a hostel and abducted over 100.


Last year, ADF attacked villages in Ntoroko district, in November 2021 terrorists suspected to be ADF blew up themselves in two bombs in Kampala leaving scores dead and others injured.


Uganda launched a full blown operation against the ADF in Congo in an a joint operation with the Congolese Army dubbed Operation Shuujaa in late 2021.


Police Report:- @FredEnanga1 "Last night, we registered a terrorist attack by the ADF rebels,  on Lhubirira secondary school, in Mpondwe, that is located about 2 kms, from the DRC border. 

A dormitory was burnt and a food store looted. 

So far 25 bodies have been recovered from the school and transferred to Bwera Hospital. Also recovered are 8 victims, who remain in critical condition at Bwera Hospital. 


A hot pursuit by the UPDF and the police is ongoing, towards Virunga national park.
