16 feared dead in latest Kyenjojo District accident


 Reports reaching our Newsroom indicate that about 16 people are feared to have died last night after the taxi they were travelling in crushed into a truck along Kyenjojo – Kagadi – Hoima Road.


The Uganda Police Spokesman Fred Enanga told our reporter this morning that the gruesome accident took place around 8.30 pm at Nyasheke Village in Kyenjojo District, but did not divulge more details.


Ugandan Police has not issued an official statement, but local residents claim that all the 16 occupants of the ill fated taxi which was carrying people from burial in Kagadi and heading to Fortportal died.


Nyasheke LC 1 Chairman Anthony Kalangwa who rushed to the scene shortly chief Anthony Kalangwa confirmed that the accident took place at Muzizi Forest in Nyasheke village when it became involved in a head-on crash with a truck.


Road accident in Uganda have become very common due to reckless driving and bad roads which forced the Parliamentary Speaker Rt Hon Anita Among to convene a special meeting with traffic Police and the Ugandan National Road Authority to discuss how to reduce the number of road accidents where more than 10 people are killed per week.
