Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court in Kampala has remanded a 36 years old man impersonating Balaam Barugahara to fraudulently extract money from MK movement supporters.

Andrew Asiimwe Mark was arraigned before Buganda Road Grade One magistrate, Sanula Namboozo and two charges of personation contrary to section 381 of the Penal Code Act and electronic fraud contrary to sections 19, 21, and 22  of the Computer Misuse Act 2011 read for him.

After admitting the charges, Andrew Asiimwe Mark was sent on remand to Luzira till 25th July 2023.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

Andrew Asiimwe Mark created a facebook page under the name of Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi with a motive of solicited for money from members of the public willing to support the MK Girl Child project. He could also use this facebook page to con people of their money promising them jobs.

Asiimwe conned people like John Twinomugisha, an MK Movement supporter who stays in Sweden.

It has been noted that Twinomugisha was willing to send him over 300m to support the non existing MK girl child project.

According to Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi who is the complainant in this case, he says Mr Twinomugisha suspected something was not right when the culprit put him on ransom over the promised 300m shillings.

"Mr Twinomugisha was about to send the money but first went to the embassy to confirm whether the money was going to the right hands, it is from here that he noticed he was dealing with a wrong person and notified the authority"

Balaam says the culprit was picked   from Kasese by the police CIDS after a long tracing, after searching about his criminal records, CIDS found out that the culprit had impersonated several people who included:- Gen saleh, musician Sheeba Karungi, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba and many others.

"It is not good to impersonate people, I call up on youths to make better use of computers and phones than impersonating others. I have forgiven him but what I requested the culprit was to make sure that he pays off all those who coned of there money" - Balaam noted.

Balm further said that once he pays off all the complainant, court can give him a fair hearing since he admitted of committing the crime than wasting court's time.
