Driver dies on the spot as bus crashes in Kyenjojo


POLICE REPORTS.


1. Accident at Mukunyu-Kyenjojo District along Kampala-Fort Portal Road On July 11, 2023, at around 1945 hrs, an accident involving M/V UAY 485, an Isuzu Bus belonging to Link Bus Co., driven by Kawawu Dauda, rammed into a stationary broken-down trailer registration No. UAV 326, a Mercedes-Benz. The bus driver, Kawawu Dauda, lost his life at the scene of the accident. Nine (09) other individuals sustained injuries, comprising eight (08) female adults and one (01) male adult. They were rushed to Kyenjonjo Hospital for medical attention. The driver of the broken-down vehicle remains unidentified. 2. Accident at Wakisanyi along Kampala-Gulu Highway, Kiryandogo District On July 12, 2023, at around 0130 hrs, another accident occurred involving M/V UAQ 409D, an Isuzu Bus belonging to Crown Coaches Bus Company. The bus collided with a stationary broken-down vehicle, M/V UAN 902, a Mitsubishi Fuso. One passenger, who was seated in the front of the bus, sustained severe injuries and was immediately taken to Kiryandongo Hospital for medical treatment. Preliminary investigations suggest that the causes of these accidents were: 1. Reckless driving. 2. Road obstruction due to broken-down vehicles. IMPORTANT TO NOTE: All drivers must ensure that reflectors are placed both in front and behind broken-down motor vehicles to alert other road users. Drivers or caretakers of broken-down vehicles must immediately inform the police for assistance in off-loading goods and towing the vehicles away from the roads. All drivers are reminded to adhere to speed limits and exercise vigilance, especially at night when poor visibility increases the risk of accidents. Members of the public and other road users are urged to notify the local police if the driver or caretaker fails to report a broken-down vehicle. Road safety is a collective responsibility.
