"I am not sure whether I will contest in 2026 or retire from politics - Hon. Connie Galiwango In An Exclusive.

After serving for fifteen (15) years in parliament as a woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Connie Galiwango Nakayenze is not sure whether she will bounce back on the ballots in 2026 to represent the people of Mbale City.

Though the insiders in Mbale City are suspecting that Hon. Connie Nakayeze Galiwango is plotting to retire from active politics and endorse Rita Namuwenge, commonly known as "Mama Emyooga"  to replace her as the Mbale City Woman MP in the 2026 general elections.

While speaking to one of our reporters at parliament a month ago, Connie Galiwango said that she had gone through a lot ever since she was elected to parliament most especially in 2021.

"Take an example, my opponent attempted to cheat my victory in 2021, she cheated me in NRM primaries and I opted to run as an independent candidate and I won. My opponent made sure she spoils my name before the NRM top leadership including president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni"- Galiwango.

Galiwango also accused her rival of plotting to kill her, she claimed that due to politics her life is in danger all the time.

"You all remember how they used to drop written documents and how they are after my life in 2021, these things have never ended, When I lost my husband early this year, my rival claimed this was the end of me winning an election in Mbale City, she claimed that Dr. was the reason I was massively winning"- Galiwango narrated to our reporter.

After the election in 2021, her opelectionponent, Hon Lydia Wanyoto Mutende filed a petition case which she lost in the high court, she again appealed but again lost it to Galiwango.

Galiwango claimed that the time she spent in courts kept her away from her voters and many have many questions about her absence from them.

"My coming back in 2026 is still confusing but I will find out from my voters, if they give me the green lights then I've got no reason as to why it should retire" - Galiwango.

At the moment, over five candidates have started checking the grounds in Mbale city and they include:- NRM's Women League, Lydia Wanyoto Mutende, Businesswoman, Jaliah Namasaba, Emyooga National Coordinator, Ritah Namuwenge and Wanyoto Nangulu.
