Mbale Journalist Detained for Filming Pastor Bujjingo’s Prayer Event.

Mbale City journalist Benson Mukisa has been detained at the Mbale Central Police Station over allegations of flying a drone during a religious event without proper authorization. Mukisa, a freelance journalist who focuses on audio-visual and documentary work, is under investigation on suspicion of plotting a terrorist attack against pastor Aloysius Bugingo and attendees of the pastor’s prayer event.

Mukisa was arrested on Friday at the Mbale Senior Secondary School grounds, where pastor Bugingo of the House of Prayer Ministries International was leading a prayer night event. Bugingo’s security team accused Mukisa of flying a drone at the religious gathering without obtaining the necessary permission. “I can confirm his arrest for using a drone during Pr Bugingo’s prayer night event. His actions posed a threat to the lives of worshippers,” said Taitika to New Vision.

Mukisa’s drone, house keys, and cell phones were allegedly confiscated by Pastor Bugingo’s security team. According to Mukisa’s wife Esther Pascal, Bugingo’s security also “asked for the passwords to his gadgets in order to erase any content he had already filmed from the prayer event.”

Pascal, who was among the Christians attending Bugingo’s service, said: “My family and I cannot access our home since even the house keys were in the drone bag, which was taken to Kampala by Pr. Bugingo’s security.” “I beg our beloved man of God Pr Bugingo to help my family by intervening in my husband’s situation because he is innocent,” Pascal said.
