MINISTER KABANDA & ED KISAKA TOUR KAMPALA ROADS.

 


Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs Minister, Hon. Hajat Minsa Kabanda, alongside the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Executive Director, Ms. Dorothy Kisaka have conducted an inspection tour of various roads within the city to assess the progress and quality of ongoing road rehabilitation works.


The tour on Friday July 28, revealed significant developments on key roads, marking a crucial step towards a cleaner and more efficient city.


Under the African Development Bank project, the Kampala City Roads Rehabilitation Project is undertaking the ambitious task of constructing over 69 kilometers of roads, promising smoother and more efficient transport routes for citizens.


The inspection team expressed satisfaction with the progress on Kabega Road in the Makindye division, which is currently standing at an impressive 80% completion. Works on this stretch include installation of drainage systems, laying of asphalt and building walkways all aiming to enhance safety and convenience for pedestrians and motorists alike.


In Nakawa Division, the team toured Portbell Road, Spring Road and Old Port Bell Road which also revealed significant work in progress.


The team also visited Industrial Area, where 5th street, 6th street, 7th Street and 8th Streets are slated for rehabilitation.

The contractor is currently conducting forward maintenance works to address existing issues before actual reconstruction begins.


Minister Kabanda reaffirmed the government's commitment to providing the city with efficient and well-maintained roads.

Environmental concerns were a priority during the inspection, with a focus on maintaining clean surroundings and proper waste disposal. Emphasis was placed on keeping the roads litter-free to promote the city's aesthetics and overall public health.


Ronald Balimwezo, the MP for Nakawa East, stressed the importance of monitoring the progress of these road projects to ensure the delivery of high-quality infrastructure. With significant investment from the African Development Bank, citizens have high expectations for durable and efficient road networks.


Local leaders expressed their excitement and appreciation for the ongoing road projects. Mayor of Nakawa Division, Paul Mugambe, highlighted the positive impact these developments will have on the community, while Makindye Division's Mayor, Ali Mulyanyama, underscored how the improved infrastructure would enhance the residents' livelihoods.​​
