President M7 Orders for the immediate release of all suspects arrested in connection to LC5 election mess.

 


During a Cabinet meeting on Monday 24th July 2023, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Ordered the Authority to set free all suspects who were arrested in connection with the just Concluded Bukedea LC5 By-Election.


According to our inside source, President Museveni assured  the cabinet that he would act Politically after the suspects have been set free.

On the 17th of July 2023, the State House Anti-corruption Unit in liaison with the Police arraigned in Bukedea Magistrate Court the Bukedea District Resident Commissioner (RDC) Mr. Tukei Wilberforce and District Police Commander (DPC) SP Charles Okoto on charges of neglect to prevent a felony.


The two were remanded till 26/07/2023.

Their woes stem from the Bukedea district LC5 Chairperson by-election mess, including among others; torture and harassment of Candidates and Journalists during the recent by-election election process.

On the 7th of July 2023, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit arrested the Bukedea Resident District Commissioner Wilberforce Tukei and District Police Commander, Superintendent of Police, Charles Okoto over the chaos that happened in the recent district LCV by-elections.


Mr Tukei and SIP Okoto were accused of abuse of office and use of excessive power.


How it Started:


On the eve of nominations for the by-election, five armed police officers raided the home of David Steven Omagor, one of the candidates, tortured him, stole his nomination papers, and made away with cash amounting to Shs 168 million. The officers also robbed several other items worth millions of shillings belonging to Omagor and another relative.


In the aftermath of the chaos, President Museveni directed the Anti-Corruption body to investigate the alleged malpractices and apprehend any government officials culpable.


This led to the arrest of the RDC (who heads the district security committee) and the DPC who heads the police force and operations. The two were arrested on Monday evening and are currently detained at Bukedea Central Police Station.


Last week on Wednesday, five police officers were charged who included Alex Enguloit, head of crime intelligence Bukedea police station, Bonny Naibei, Simon Peter Oriokot, Onesmus Akankwasa and Difas Kamakion were charged and remanded over the mess in the same by-election.
