State House Anti Corruption Unit Throws Mbale City Councillor In Jail Over Land Grabbing And Bribery.

The State House Anti Corruption Unit in coordination with the Uganda Police have arrested Ismail Walujo, a councillor representing Buchingo Ward in Mbale City and Secretary Works for Mbale City Council over allegations of land grabbing, bribery and abuse of office.

Walujo is accused of conniving with former officials of Nakaloke Town Council to illegally sell off 52 acres of government land in Nakaloke, keeping the largest share of plots for himself. He also allegedly grabbed Umar and Yumbe Primary Schools in Mbale City, causing the schools to collapse after erecting a car washing bay and restaurant on the school land.

Investigators allege that Walujo has been bribing District Education Officers to stop following up on Umar and Yumbe Schools by withholding teachers and resources, leading to the breakdown of education services.

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit was established in 2018 by President Yoweri Museveni to combat corruption in public institutions. The unit is headed by Lt. Col. Edith Nakalema, who has been credited with several successful anti-corruption operations in recent years.
