A yet-to-identified Woman who stole a car Reg No. UAT 478N at tycoon Aponye’s burial has been arrested by police.
It is alleged that during the burial of City Businessman, Mr. Apollo Nyegamahe also well known as Aponye in Muganga western Uganda, the yet to be identified woman stole a car from parking space which was secured for the mourners and drove away smoothly.
The Kigezi Diocese Secretary Rev Canon Milton Nkurunungi yesterday said that the vehicle was reported missing during a requiem service at the deceased’s home in Muhanga town council before Aponye was finally laid to rest.
“We were attending the burial [Aponye’s burial] and one of our archdeacon’s vehicles was stolen. We have reported to police and to the DPC and we have also informed those in Ntungamo and Mbarara. They are making all tracking to see that the vehicle is recovered,” Rev. Canon Nkurunungi was quoted by KFM on Wednesday evening.
He condemned the act, wondering how someone could take advantage of a situation of grieving to commit such a crime.
Police were yet to issue a statement on the alleged arrest of the woman and recovery of the diocesan car by press time.
According to retired AIGP Asan Kasingye's tweeter post, she was arrested at a road block in Rwampara by traffic Police officers who intercepted her at 2200hrs.
The late Aponye who died on the spot in a road accident was buried yesterday 12th July 2023.
