Hon Richard Ssebamala, the Member of Parliament Bukoto Central in Masaka District has swallowed his pride and explained why he disappeared with Five (5) Million shillings, meant to buy iron sheets for Katigindo National Major, which was meant to roof a girls' dormitory.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
In a turn of events this week, there is a video that made rounds on social media ditching Bukoto Central MP, Hon. Richard Ssebamala for having received and not paid back 5 Million Uganda Shillings that was collected by Katigondo National Major Seminary.
The five million was meant to procure iron sheets (mabaati) for the completion of the girls’ dormitory at the school of the same parish.
It is alleged that in Feb 2023, Hon Ssebamala collected the five million from a yet-to-be-identified Rev. Father, promising to go and buy iron sheets from a factory for the school.
"Yes he promised to give us a hand on the construction of the girl's dormitory, upon calling him on the phone, he requested me to send him all the funds we had collected through a fundraising drive, telling me how he would top up and buy all the iron sheets" - Rev. Father.
According to Rev. Father, money was sent to Hon. Ssebamala towards the end of February 2023.
By the end of May, Ssebamala had not procured for them Iron sheets, and neither was he giving them an update.
After a period of about four months, Ssebamala informed Rev. Father of how he would refund the money.
Hon. Ssebamala in his response claims that the five Million (5) shillings were refunded to Rev. Father, though he never specified the date or month of refund.
"I refunded the 5m which was given to me by the church, we had agreed with father that I was going to help procure for them iron sheets from the factory worth Twelve (12) Millions" - Ssebamala.
Ssebamala further claimed that father never complied with what they had agreed on.
"We had agreed with Father that he would send me the balance in order for me to procure iron sheets which father failed" - Ssebamala.
“Fr. Gerald called me and said that they no longer want iron sheets, they want the money but the hardware refused to give me that money so I asked him to give me some time to look for that money, I got it and paid, I did that on a Thursday 27th, April, 2023 and Hon. Kasolo was hosted on Saturday.
When Fr. Gerald made that news, someone tipped me, I called him and asked why he made that news against me, he (Rev. Fr) said he has not yet seen the money so I told him to check his mobile wallet and it was true, may be he had not checked before”. He added.
WHY HE REFUNDED MONEY LATE:
Hon. Ssebamala claims that money was delayed due to a financial crisis and other reasons.
"I was organising a football tournament at the same time I was supposed to travel to South Africa. All this delayed the refund process"- Ssebamala.
He further claimed that the father is conniving with an NRM member only identified as Kasolo to Blackmail him.
