Mp Wandwasi's Wife & 3 Survive Being Lynched In Mistaken Identity As Police Fires Live Bullets To Disperse Angry Villager In Butaleja.

On the 26th of September 2023, the wife of Bungokho South Member of Parliament, Hon. Wandwasi Robert, and three of his relatives survived being lynched by a mob in Butalaja district, in a mistaken identity.

What You Need To Know:

On Thursday 27th September at around 10 PM, Wandwasi's relatives who were driving in a Primo registration, UAX 454V were ambushed near Nabiganda by villagers who mistook them for cattle thieves.

According to MP Wandwasi, his wife had traveled to Butalenja alongside other 3 relatives to process.

"I got a call from my wife at around 7 pm informing me that we had harvested over 200 bags of rice, she told me that she had loaded 100 bags on a Fuso to take it for processing. Unfortunately, they arrived in Butaleja very late"- Wandwasi narrates.

Wandwasi further informed our reporters that upon arriving at the milling center, his wife suggested that they just store the rice because it was too late for them to wait for it.

"The milling Manager accepted to store our produce, though it was getting late, my wife and two brothers entered a primo and the Fuso driver was on the lead. A few miles from the milling center, my wife says they were intercepted by locals who had staged a roadblock in search of stolen cows. Upon noticing that My wife and her group were not the ones, they were allowed to proceed with their journey"- Wandwasi.

Wandwasi narrated to us that no sooner had his wife driven a few miles away from the roadblock than they landed in a group of cattle thieves who had also staged another roadblock.

"The driver of the Fuso and my wife immediately made a U-turn after noticing danger, they drove at a high speed while hooting, Upon getting to the first roadblock, they stopped and tried to alert the villagers but the villagers instead embarked on beating them thinking they were thieves"- Wandwasi.

The Fuso driver and Wandwasi's wife maneuvered and escaped from the scene, abandoning both cars, according to Wandwasi the villagers attempted to bun the cars after the occupants running away to save their lives.

"My wife called my phone while in panic, I immediately called the DPC of Busoba, who eventually swung in to rescue the situation" - Wandwasi.

Butaleja police station has impounded the Fuso and Primo pending investigations. Police also rescued 3 cows during this night operation.
