Soroti Hospital Hit By Bedbugs, Force Patients To Sleep On The Floors Of Wards.

Several patients and there attendants at Soroti referral Hospital have abandoned hospital beds due to Bedbugs. 

speaking to our reporters, a number of them complained that the hospital management has failed to manage the spread of bedbugs from one word to another which is making them unconfutable to use hospital beds.

"We opted to bring our locally made mats in the hospital, at times our patients prefer sharing these mats with us because the hospital beds have Bedbugs'' - a group of patient attendants told our reporter

On the other hand, the Soroti City West Member of Parliament, Hon. Jonathan Ebwalu Tuesday September 12, 2023 locked the office of Soroti Regional Refferal Hospital Senior Hospital Administrator over lack of Oxygen in the Hospital.

Ebwalu on Monday braced the cold night at the Hospital premises monitoring the situation at the facility.

According to Ebwalu, the senior hospital leaders have spent five days without appearing at their duty station yet the facility is facing oxygen and blood crisis.

“I got calls from patients that there was no Oxygen and blood here (Soroti Hospital), so I decided to run here and indeed I arrived and also found that 15 people had died yesterday (monday) September 11, 2023,” he said.

He added that the referral hospital has since Friday had no oxygen.

“The reason I got was the oxygen plant broke down. I remember what caused that was because four staff here stole the spare parts of the oxygen plant,” Ebwalu noted.

He also blamed the hospital management for failing to purchase an X-ray machine even after Ministry of Teso Affairs donating Uganda Shillings six hundred million.

“We gave this hospital six hundred million for purchasing an x-ray machine but for three years now there is no x-ray machine in this hospital.”

He highlighted the conflict between the hospital director and procurement manager has caused the delay in the purchasing of an X-ray machine.

He has now vowed to drag the hospital leadership to IGG for gross loss of lives, absenteeism and abscondment of duty.

Rev. Sister Mary Gorreti Ajiko the acting hospital director declined to comment saying the Hospital Director Dr. Ben Watmoi was meant to address the press on the above subject matter.
